2 May 2013

Ray Richardson

Attention early risers!

We’ll be on the radio early Friday morning, May 3.

Dave and myself will have a brief chat with Ray Richardson on his show on WLOB 1310 AM about what we’ve got coming up including our third annual Newfoundland Day show, the Remembering Tom Rowe concert where we honor the memory of Dave’s father and the Vacationland Music spectacular coming up at the St. Lawrence Arts Center in Portland.

We should hit the airwaves at about 6:50 a.m. Tune in and hear all the fun.

I'm listening to The Squid Jiggers on Spotify right now and I can't tell the difference between this, and the real thing! And it's free! And it's legal!

Bound for Glory at Cornell University

12 August 2011
Bound for Glory

WVBR's Phil Shapiro

On a Sunday night in September 1967, Phil Shapiro made his first Ithaca broadcast on WVBR’s Bound for Glory, presenting folk music of all sorts and kinds to the Central New York listening audience. Now, more than forty years and 1,200 concerts later, WVBR’s Bound for Glory is hosting THE SQUID JIGGERS. If you’re in the area, or want an excuse for a road trip, stop by the Cafe at Anabel Taylor Hall on the Cornell University campus, or tune in on WVBR, in Ithaca or on the Internet. The show runs from 8 to 11 p.m. There are three live sets at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30 p.m.

Just about everybody who is anybody in folk music has appeared on Bound for Glory. A short list of recent performers reads like a folky all-star team, including Bill Staines, Debra Cowan, Ellis Paul , Mustard’s Retreat, Seamus Kennedy, Bob Franke and Garnet Rogers. So, needless to say, THE SQUID JIGGERS are extremely thrilled to be asked to perform.

For the first time on radio

30 August 2010

Dave and I have been on the radio in our separate capacities with the Dave Row Trio and the Half Moon Jug Band, but yesterday we got our first spin on the airwaves as the Squid Jiggers. The honor came from folk DJ Ron Olesko on his “Traditions” show on WFDU at Fairleigh Dickinson University in the Northern New Jersey/NYC listening area. Ron played “The Squid Jigging Ground” from our forthcoming, first album “Greatest Hits.” The disc ships from the manufacturer on Wednesday. We should have it in our squiddy little hands after Labor Day.
